Sauti Sol Announce that the Band is Splitting Up
Sauti Sol released a statement through their communications team announcing that the band would be splitting but would do a tour and drop one last album as a way to commemorate two decades of the group.
The band has been together for about two decades now and has released numerous highly-acclaimed albums. The band is made up of Bien-Aime Baraza, Polycarp Otieno, Willis Chimano, and Savara Mudigi.
Why is Sauti Sol Splitting Up?
Sauti Sol is splitting up and taking an "indefinite hiatus" to allow each of the band's members to take on their individual projects. It's a common phenomenon for bands to split up; after each of the members starts to pursue their individual careers and feels they have come of age in their craft.
All of Sauti Sol's members have each dropped a project of their own, expressing their unique sound and exploring their style. The split reminds us of Just a Band's split and how that was such a momentous loss to music as a whole. Listen to Bien's No Body, one of our fave jams, below.
Is there Bad Blood in Sauti Sol's Split?
No. There is no bad blood between the members and as per the statement, they remain friends and their upcoming tour will be "a testament to their enduring bond of friendship and partnership built over 20 years in the industry".
Where Will Sauti Sol Tour?
Sauti Sol will tour the United States, Europe, and Canada. Their communication team released the tour dates as part of the announcement that the band will split up. They will also do a final performance at the third annual Solfest on December 16th this year.
Top Band in Africa, Sauti Sol's Last Album
The statement also shared that Sauti Sol, the top band in Africa, will drop one last album this year, with fans told to expect a single from the album that will be "coming soon." The single the statement says, will "be a taste of what to come from the band's final album". Watch Bien's latest single 'Too Easy' featuring Dj Edu below.
We wish each of Sauti Sol's members all the best in their individual careers. They have all been a dream come true for Kenyan music and music as a whole. Bravo boys. All the best!
