The Supreme Court of Kenya upheld William Ruto’s win in the 2022 General Elections a fortnight after the Azimio One Kenya Alliance petitioned the 2022 general elections’ results. As per the 7-judge bench, William Ruto, now President-Elect, won fair and square. But is it really so?

Heated Objection to the Kenyan Supreme Court’s Ruling

Despite shared regard for the rule of law from all petitioners and participants, the Azimio side accepted the results but “vehemently disagreed” with the Supreme Court ruling as per a statement they released. Even so, Azimio la Umoja, led by Raila Odinga, called for peace and thanked their supporters.

What’s Next for Raila Odinga?

Raila Odinga as a 78-year-old may have to retire and hand the reigns of Azimio and ODM to a crop of younger politicians to continue the struggle. His loss in the 2022 General Elections by no means makes him a smaller man or politician.

Raila the Enigma

Raila Odinga has done a lot for this country beyond what you and I could imagine. Raila has been there through fortune and destitution. He’s fought beyond words for freedom and justice in this country and we all owe him a vote of thanks.

Will William Ruto be a Good President?

That remains to be seen. William Ruto has, however, been very determined to clinch the presidential seat and it seems his hard work paid off. His narrative also: the ‘hustlers’ rhetoric, and his display of himself as a leader who isn’t part of the system or deep state, also worked like magic. Ruto also played the religious card by presenting himself as a man of God and a stoic christian.

Ruto’s Dark Side

William Ruto’s dark side can, however, not go unmentioned. There hasn’t been a leader in the last two decades that has been linked to as many corruption scandals as he has been. Ruto, according to critics, is an avid thief and embezzler of public funds. Some have even gone as far as to say that he single-handedly runs a cartel that drains nearly two billion Kenya shillings every day from public coffers. Even so, he is now the head of state and we hope these claims are untrue.

William Ruto’s First 100 Days in Power

President-Elect William Ruto has vowed to do his best to keep as many of his campaign promises as he can in his first 100 days in office. Chief among them all, Kenyans say, is bringing down the current high cost of living and the exorbitant prices of basic goods. Many of Ruto’s friends and foes alike are keen to see what he will do to mitigate the current tough economic times.

Will ODM and Azimio la Umoja Make a Strong Opposition?

Definitely yes. ODM and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya will be keen to make one hell of a strong opposition and bulldoze William Ruto and Kenya Kwanza’s time in power. The opposition will be very tough and Ruto will not get any time to breathe once the elected leaders are sworn in.

Who has Control of Parliament?

William Ruto’s party has control of parliament and garnered the most parliamentary seat wins across the country. Azimio One Kenya Party, on the other hand, has more senators but that is expected to change. The reason is that William Ruto, on being announced President-Elect last month, allegedly went on a buying spree to ‘buy’ or pull opposition members of parliament and senate to his corner. Therefore, he’s likely to end up with an upper hand and more elected leaders in both the parliament and senate.

Will William Ruto be a Dictator?

That remains to be seen. There’s a myth going around that William Ruto will become a staunch dictator similar to his mentor the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. Ruto was Moi’s prodigy and his critics have expressed fear that he could rule the country with an iron fist. However, there’s nothing to indicate that. What we do know is that Ruto is somewhat of a tough man to crack and his rise to the top is an adage to his prowess in politics, regardless of whether he stole the election or not.

Were the 7 Supreme Court Judges Bribed?

Probably. It is not impossible that Ruto bribed the seven judges. Even so, it is highly unlikely. What may have happened is that Azimio la Umoja failed to present a convincing case and convincing evidence to the Supreme Court, leading to their unfortunate loss.

Will Uhuru Kenyatta Hand Over Power?

Uhuru’s legacy has become tainted by his public support of Raila Odinga as his preferred successor. State House, however, put out a presidential address where Uhuru Kenyatta says he will obey the court and ensure a smooth transition. He seems keen to ensure his nemesis Ruto will assume office without a glitch; even as the bigger question remains whether he will relinquish the soft power he still possesses.

What’s Next for Kenya?

Kenya will remain a peaceful country despite the election not going the way of over 6 million people. Raila Odinga’s loss is a blow to many but everyone agrees that peace is of the utmost importance. As such, Kenya will remain a peaceful country.

When will William Ruto be Sworn In?

Peace will prevail even as we now expect William Ruto to be sworn in on Tuesday the 13th of September. The law stipulates that the winner of the Supreme Court petition will be sworn in as the President on the first Tuesday within 7 days of the Supreme Court judgment. We also urge peace here at Mania News. Stay calm, accept the ruling of the apex court of the land, and we’ll live to fight another day. God bless Kenya!
